Financial Literacy 101
Role – strategy, research, copywriting, illustration, storyboards, animation, sound design, voice-over
While working at the OSC’s Investor Office, I proposed a video series to engage new audiences on YouTube and provide multimodal learning experiences by embedding the videos on GetSmarterAboutMoney.ca.
To start, I used Google Analytics to quantify the most popular topics on GSAM. However, this didn’t provide much insight into why people sought our resources in the first place, or if what they found was helpful. Fortunately, I recognized the wealth of qualitative data available to us through the Investor Office’s microsite, InvestingQuestions.ca. IQ allows users to submit their questions about investing, and receive personalized unbiased answers from the Investor Office.
By annotating and analyzing hundreds of recently submitted questions, I gleaned insights into areas of confusion that my scripts could address directly. I was able to challenge my assumptions about our users’ comprehension by continually referencing their submitted questions and asking:
How can I phrase the script in a way that preemptively eliminates the need for this question?
“The Investor Office’s animated videos were amongst the most highly appreciated resources by both, external stakeholders and user journey mapping participants. They were praised for being “simple… engaging” and “on point” with end-user preferences.”
